“Time is the coin of your life. You spend it. Do not allow others to spend it for you.” – Carl Sandburg
Bom dia loves! A few days ago I posted some of my picks for going out around town — but by now you all should know that I appreciate a great night in just as heartily. Here are my picks for the ideal BYNI (by yourself night in). Give yourself a little budget to buy yourself something nice on Asos (they’re 70% off right now!) or Nasty Gal (I need this dress in my life), curl up with the softest blanket ever and start that movie you’ve been meaning to watch forever (for me that’s 12 Angry Men and Se7en) and TAKE A NIGHT!
Favorite ‘Spruce Up Your Place’ Website: MoveLoot.com
This website’s business model is brilliant, and I’ll tell you why. First of all, it’s just pretty to look at and makes me want to browse through antique dressers anytime I’m bored at home and instantly brings me joy. Second, if YOU want to sell furniture, they come and pick it up and they get some percentage of what they sell it for — but if they never can sell it, whoop dee do — you got it out of your apartment for free. Finally, the stuff on their site is really cool, eclectic and satisfies everyone’s taste and budget. Check out the crazy dresser above. I bought a gorgeous One Kings Lane grey dresser for around 300 bucks when it was originally $850. #Score.
Favorite Food Money Saver: Blue Apron
This is a way to curb spending money on eating out — which I have a problem doing way too much. It’s called Blue Apron and it is not only a money saver, but a relationship-developer and is helping transform me into a potential real housewife of NYC. I’ve also heard great things about Plated. A review to come soon on that front.
Favorite Summer Binge-Watch: Pretty Little Liars
If you haven’t jumped on this teenage-angst/no parental units anywhere to be seen bandwagon yet, do it now before it comes back in January! Promise it’ll be the conversation starter of your wildest nightmares (in the best way possible). Also, once you get to the most recent Prom finale — read my Tweet cap from Yahoo. The internet is hilarious.
Favorite Sneaky Cooking: General Tso’s Cauliflower
Chinese that is healthy? Go combine browsing through Move Loot while catching up on PLL and devouring this. I promise you a dynamite evening.
Favorite Planning Calendar: Fall Movies
Get your pretty planners out and start recording dates for movie nights! Planning a release date night-out with your boys and girls always makes seeing movies more special. And guys, fall movies are all of the Oscar contenders!! It’s going to be an amazing end of the year movie-wise. On my list: Truth, Secret in Their Eyes (Yes Julia Roberts!!), Spotlight (Anything with Rachel McAdams will always be on my list) and Daddy’s Home (because, Will Ferrel).
Get A Little Writing Done: Figure out what time is best for you.
I really like this article from Contently on figuring out when you’re at your best to write. Whether you’re writing for a blog, writing a school paper, or coming up with a crafty email — you want to do your best! Plus, don’t we all secretly desire to be the next J.K. Rowling? I know I do.
Read A Book: In Under An Hour
Be transformed to another world, see circumstances through someone else’s eyes and take some deep, transformative breaths — all in under an hour? Where do I sign up? Yes to Second Variety by Philip K. Dick and Always Right by Niall Ferguson.
Favorite Bliss Out: A Long, Hot Bath
I’m a bath girl. I love all the soaps and salts and face masks and music that goes along with it. Try this Dead Sea salt so you can get extra floaty, this Chanel bubble bath for a seriously luxurious smell (or try this Laura Mercier option for a little less), throw this citrus and kale mask on from Eminence (my favorite organic line) and get some pent-up emotion out with the Soulful Heartache playlist from Songza (trust me, it’s the BEST).
